NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans police officer was seriously injured Friday morning after being dragged by a vehicle fleeing an overdose scene outside the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street.
The officer shot the suspect, and he later died from his injuries, according to officials.
Around 10:40 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a person overdosing in a vehicle near St. Andrew and Rousseau streets. After an officer administered Narcan, the suspect became erratic, according to NOPD Chief Kirkpatrick.
