New Orleans public housing office is in hazardous condition, director says. Here’s what’s next.

Citing mold, water leaks and other dangerous conditions, the executive director of New Orleans’ public housing authority called this week for the relocation of that agency’s main office, a request the agency’s board tabled.

The six-member Housing Authority of New Orleans board rejected Marjorianna Willman’s push in a 3-3 vote Tuesday, moving instead to revisit the idea when a committee of the board meets later this month.

The agency’s Touro Street office in Gentilly has been plagued for years by mold, air conditioning outages and other problems, said Willman, who took over as director of the housing agency in late January. To protect staff, the agency should instead enter lease negotiations for a new office space on Poydras Street in the Central Business District, she said…
