In a concerted effort to clamp down on the city’s drug and gun violence, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), alongside federal agencies, has been making significant strides through a multi-agency operation that started back in August 2024. According to a media briefing held yesterday, which NOPD News reported on, there has been a notable impact in the removal of illegal substances and firearms from the community.
Results presented by the NOPD and its partners, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), reflect the arrests of 106 individuals, with 194 arrest warrants cleared and 85 guns seized 17 stolen, as stated in documents provided during the briefing. With the collaboration of these organizations and the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, Superintendent Anne E. Kirkpatrick highlighted the operational gains: “Through this ongoing partnership, we’re using analytical data to assist in obtaining warrants and making multiple arrests on high-risk warrant executions to take numerous illegal narcotics and suspects off our streets,” as per a report by NOPD News.
The operation’s success in seizures extends to substantial quantities of drugs, including nearly 49 pounds of marijuana, over 7,700 tablets of the pain medication Tapentadol, and various other narcotics, culminating in the confiscation of over $129,000 in cash.
