A long-running local music festival that supports the restoration of Bayou St. John is in jeopardy this year and may not return to its traditional stomping grounds in the future.
The Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo is scheduled to kick off May 16 with a lineup of local musicians, food vendors and crafts, as hundreds of rafts and innertubes bob on the waters of the bayou. But with only nine days til the gates open, festival founder Jared Zeller hasn’t received a crucial permit from City Hall that would allow the festival to take place.
To get the permit, Zeller must agree to move the three-day fest away from the neighborhood, or demonstrate widespread support to keep the fest where it is, despite years of complaints from neighbors, said District A council member Joe Giarrusso.
“I get more parking and ticketing complaints from Bayou Boogaloo than Jazz Fest,” Giarrusso said…
