Mother’s Day without Mom: Family of slain New Orleans grocer faces first holiday without her

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – This Mother’s Day will be the first without Thanh Vu, the matriarch of a tight-knit Vietnamese family that owns the Viet My Supermarket in New Orleans East. Vu was shot during a robbery at the family’s store on New Year’s Eve, and later died at the hospital.

Her daughter, Mai Vu, says the pain is still raw.

“It’s hard not to think about it every day, and then it just rehashes everything,” she said.

Three suspects — Nathaniel Carpenter, 24; Anjanau “Henny” Davis, 25; and Adrian Harris, 27 — were arraigned Tuesday and entered not guilty pleas. Each faces charges including second-degree murder. A judge set bond at $7.5 million per defendant…
