Former Gretna Postal Worker Sentenced to 21 Months for Mail Theft and Delay

A former postal worker from Gretna, Louisiana has been handed a 21-month prison term for crimes involving the mishandling and theft of U.S. Mail, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Randy Brown Jr., 31, pleaded guilty to charges that he delayed the mail and pilfered checks from it.

Investigations revealed that, starting in July 2022 and continuing through early October of that year, Brown carried out his unlawful activities. Specifically, on September 26 and 27 and October 3, 2022, Brown was found to have “knowingly embezzle, steal, abstract, and remove checks” from the mail, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

United States District Judge Sarah S. Vance, who sentenced Brown, also prescribed a three-year supervised release following his imprisonment. Alongside, Brown must pay a $100 special assessment fee.
