New Orleans council members are preparing to overhaul a tax relief program for small-scale developers in a bid to ease confusion around the application process and ensure projects economically benefit the city.
Under proposed guidelines for the city’s restoration tax abatement program, developers would no longer receive tax breaks for short-term rental properties. Officials would also tighten eligibility criteria for developers seeking tax incentives over a five-year period, and ineligible applicants would have the right to appeal.
