NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – City and state officials are demanding a full audit of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office following a jailbreak that led to 10 violent offenders escaping from the Orleans Justice Center. Leaders say the public should have been alerted much sooner and want answers.
“When it was realized that 10 inmates had escaped and were gone, why wasn’t there this like big alarm that rung?” asked New Orleans City Council Vice President Helena Moreno. “Where the media was notified, all the outside law enforcement agencies, like NOPD and State Police, were notified. The public was notified. Like these things should have happened immediately as soon as they found out.”
The escape, caught on surveillance cameras, reportedly happened hours before the public or even other law enforcement agencies were told. Moreno is outraged that no one seemed to be watching the cameras or responding in real time…
