Business leaders are stepping up to ensure kids can remain enrolled at one of the summer camps sponsored by the local nonprofit Asher Institute Nola, after its director promised funding it couldn’t deliver in time to keep three of its camps open.
Flagged by community leaders, New Orleans trash magnate Sidney Torres IV, has committed nearly $50,000 to Dryades YMCA near Central City, one of three camps under the Asher Institute’s umbrella that was at risk of turning away campers this summer without adequate funding to cover food, staff salaries and programming costs.
