New Orleans to pay $90 million in settlements to those who sued the city

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The New Orleans City Council voted Thursday to approve a plan to pay off nearly $90 million in court-ordered payments owed to those who successfully sued the city.

The council authorized the issuance of tax revenue bonds to cover the long-standing backlog. Some recipients have waited years — in some cases decades — for payments, despite winning lawsuits and receiving payment orders from judges.
