Eileen Carter, a former social media manager for Mayor LaToya Cantrell who went on to lead a failed effort to recall her from office, is running to replace Cantrell as mayor.
Carter filed her paperwork to enter the Oct. 11 primary contest on Thursday, the second day of a three-day qualifying period. She is running with no party affiliation.
“I’m running for mayor of the city of New Orleans because we are tired of being resilient — it’s time to thrive,” said Carter in an interview Thursday. “I was waiting for someone to pick up the baton. No one picked it up.”…
