Mayor Cantrell continues quixotic legal campaign against former neighbor

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell isn’t letting go of her grudge against a former neighbor who snapped photos of her dining with her alleged paramour Jeffrey Vappie while the two supped at a French Quarter restaurant.

According to WVUE, which has obtained court documents related to the case, Cantrell is asking the state’s Supreme Court to overturn two previous losses she’s suffered in her legal campaign against Anne Breaud.

Given all the scandals, missteps, international travel and other notable events in Cantrell’s life, it’s hard to believe it’s only been a year since Cantrell’s spat with Breaud began. So to recap: in April 2024 Cantrell, a public official who was dining in public outdoors, filed a restraining order against Breaud, who had been a neighbor of Cantrell’s while the mayor was living rent free in a city-owned French Quarter apartment. Vappie was ostensibly on duty at the time, as you might recall, since he was supposed to be working as the mayor’s bodyguard as part of her NOPD protection detail.

The mayor alleged in her suit that Breaud was stalking her and harassing her for taking a picture of her in a public place – while Breaud was sitting on the balcony of her own home, no less…
