The destructive power of water is very much in the news these days, due to the tragedy still unfolding in Texas. But the truth is that Louisiana didn’t need a reminder of how deadly flooding can be, because living with the danger is a constant around here.
And so is the need to keep the defenses surrounding some of south Louisiana’s most populated areas strong and up-to-date, particularly as extreme weather events become more frequent and more threatening.
Risk reduction is expensive, though, and there are new concerns about whether the federal government is willing to do all that’s necessary to keep our area as safe as it should be…
