Positive West Nile Virus samples found in Tangipahoa Parish

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A recent series of testing by the Tangipahoa Mosquito Abatement District (TMAD), has led to the detection of 28 mosquito samples of West Nile Virus.

West Nile Virus is the “most common mosquito-borne disease” in the United States.

TMAD officials say the samples were collected in traps set throughout the district. They added that environmental factors play a pivotal role in the increased mosquito population.

“We are currently seeing the highest number of mosquito samples testing positive for West Nile virus so far this year. We will be conducting additional treatments and continuing to use every available method to reduce mosquito activity,” said Director Colby Colona.

So far in 2025, 1,044 samples have been tested with 53 returning positive for WNV, according to TMAD officials…
