Mayor Cantrell abusing power in French Quarter sanitation dispute, state AG says

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – One day before a court hearing in the ongoing French Quarter sanitation contract dispute, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill issued a scathing assessment against New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Murrill announced she was filing an amicus brief opposing Cantrell’s attempts to steer the work on an emergency basis to businessman Troy Henry’s company, Henry Consulting.

In a statement, Murrill said, “The mayor cannot manufacture an ‘emergency.’ I have filed an amicus brief on this matter due to the public’s interest in not having public officials abuse their authority under the disaster powers law. New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell is blatantly abusing her emergency powers under the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act in order to circumvent the public procurement laws.”…
