Extreme heat warning issued for Monday

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — An extreme heat warning is in effect Monday, July 28 across parts of Southeast Louisiana- including all of New Orleans- from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Heat index values could reach as high as 114 degrees for these locations surrounding the lake.

Other surrounding areas, and coastal communities are under a heat advisory where heat index values could reach 108 degrees or more. With surface high pressure to our west – this will suppress any relief in the form of an afternoon shower.

Extreme heat poses serious threats such as heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat stroke. Be safe out there.

Please:

  • Limit outdoor activities, especially during midday.
  • Stay hydrated and favor cool, shaded or air‑conditioned spaces.
  • Check on loved ones like infants, seniors, and those with health vulnerabilities.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

These conditions can cause serious illness. Let’s look out for each other.

Expect daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. Our monthly normal temperature for July is 93 degrees…
