Heights bars capitalize on White Linen Night, especially after 19th Street started charging admission

White Linen Night has long drawn revelers to 19th Street in the Heights for a New Orleans-born block party tradition. A strip of bars on White Oak Drive to the south quickly became popular for the event, as well. Now, the whole neighborhood – and beyond – is cashing in on the spike in business.

For the second year, the 19th Street Heights Merchants Association is charging $10 to $15 to stroll the cordoned-off 200 and 300 blocks of the thoroughfare while wearing white. The pay-to-enter model drew criticism last year, and some businesses say they noticed a shift in crowds’ location of choice.
