Mona Lisa restaurant faces eviction after nearly 20 years in the French Quarter

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – After nearly two decades of serving locals and tourists alike, a beloved French Quarter restaurant says it’s being forced out, and the owners say they found out by text message.

Mona Lisa, a small Italian restaurant on Royal Street known for its quirky charm and wall-to-wall tributes to da Vinci’s famous painting, has been a neighborhood fixture since Hurricane Katrina. But now, its future is uncertain.

“It was like a text message from a person who was a realtor, not even the person who supposedly bought the building,” said co-owner Farrow Stephenson. “We don’t have any information on that person. It was just at 10:00 in the morning last Thursday, and we’re like, ‘Wow, OK.’ We really didn’t do anything but walk around in shock.”…
