The New Orleans Police Department has released its latest crime statistics, covering the period of July 27 through August 2. Focusing on gun-related offenses, the data reflects a downward trend in gun arrests and seizures compared to the previous year. A highlight from the arrests includes the July 30 capture of Dylan Parr, a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run incident.
According to the NOPD News release, the authorities have made 168 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm year-to-date, a notable 48-percent decline from the 323 arrests during the same period in 2024. The NOPD attributes these numbers to their ongoing efforts to curb gun-related crimes within the community.
The decrease in gun seizures is similarly significant, with NOPD data showing 1,097 firearms collected in the course of criminal investigations. This number marks a 23-percent decrease from the 1,430 firearms seized last year during the same time frame.
