The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) recently released its preliminary crime statistics for last week. According to a report published by NOPD News, the data shows a decline in both gun arrests and firearm seizures compared to the same period last year.
In 2025, NOPD has so far made 183 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm, reflecting a significant, 44-percent decrease from the 327 arrests made during the equivalent period in 2024. These arrests are noted under the provision of LA RS 14:95 and related sub-items.
