Powerball jackpot rises to $1 billion, sixth-largest in game’s history

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – It could be a billion-dollar holiday weekend for someone.

The estimated jackpot for the Powerball drawing on Saturday night (Aug. 30) has risen to $1 billion, making it just the sixth time it has crossed the 10-digit mark in the game’s history.

For the billion-dollar payout, a winner would need to select their grand prize as an annuity, paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years. Or the winner could choose a lesser, lump-sum cash payment, which for Saturday’s jackpot is estimated at $453.1 million…
