NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Fire Department received two separate reports of housefires within an hour Sunday, Aug. 31.
According to the NOFD, the first report came in at 4:02 p.m. about a structure fire at 1018 and 1020 Kerlerec Street. Firefighters found heavy fire extending to the attic of a one-story building. Both residents were safely accounted for, and no injuries were reported. Investigators determined it was caused by an electrical outlet malfunction.

The second report came in at 4:40 p.m. about a fire at 933 Louisiana Avenue. Firefighters found heavy smoke around the rear of the residence, which was divided up into apartments.
According to the homeowner, the incident began while using the oven’s cleaning function. After briefly leaving the room, he came back to find the area on fire.
