NEW ORLEANS — A judge on Wednesday denied a request by former New Orleans child abuse detective and convicted child molester Stanley Burkhardt to reduce his bond, keeping him behind bars at the Orleans Justice Center.
Burkhardt, 74, has been in and out of prison on sex crimes violations six times since 1987, including pleading guilty to molesting his 9-year-old niece. During one arrest, federal agents who searched Burkhardt’s home found a 12-year-old boy inside, though no charges related to that child were ever filed against him.
He was arrested again in July after prosecutors alleged he violated parole conditions by secretly using cell phones and the internet to access social media and comment on photos of children under screen names like “boyz4me!”…
