Porch Poppin’: Geddes name is synonymous with New Orleans funeral home industry

George Geddes, who was born in 1845 and became known as the “Pioneer Undertaker of the South,” opened a mortuary business in 1876. George D. Geddes Undertaking and Embalming Company became the first to have a female embalmer.
