Former 911 director wants WWL interview excluded from his criminal trial

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans’ former 911 emergency services director, Tyrell Morris, asked a judge Wednesday to block prosecutors from using some of Morris’ own statements against him in his upcoming criminal trial.

Morris’ defense attorney, Ralph Whalen, is trying to get interviews of Morris by WWL Louisiana and WDSU excluded from evidence at the trial, which is scheduled to start Monday. Whalen is also asking Orleans Criminal District Judge Simone Levine to stop the state from using a form Morris filed to run for mayor of New Orleans. Another judge ruled the form Morris signed contained false statements about his taxes that got him disqualified from the mayor’s race.

Levine said she would decide by Friday whether prosecutors could present the evidence at trial…
