NEW ORLEANS — What should’ve been a busy Monday night at St. Roch Market quickly turned into a blackout when a power outage forced the food hall to shut down during peak hours.
Kevin Pedeaux, operator of St. Roch market, says the market first lost power to half the building around 4:30 p.m. Monday. By 6 p.m., just 30 minutes before the market’s popular weekly trivia night, the entire building went dark. He says by the time power came back on around 7:30 p.m. It was too late.
“June, July, it slows down, but really August, September, and September particularly is really, really bad. So we’re getting to the end of September, we’re getting to the end of the bank account, and then alright, this is our one night of the week to make a little money and maybe pay the power bill,” Pedeaux said. “[When the power came back on] At that point, that’s dinner, it’s over with, we’re done.”…
