New Orleans Councilman Eugene Green Champions Healing with Remembrance Vigil and Anti-Violence Events

In New Orleans, the conversation about violence and its impact on communities continues with vigils and events led by local leaders. Councilman Eugene Green of District D is at the forefront of this effort, taking steps to both honor those who have been lost and support the survivors of violence. Recently, the New Orleans Police Department’s Victim Witness Assistance Unit held its Inaugural National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims, an event Green actively supported.

The remembrance walk marked a poignant moment in the city and took place on September 25. “In remembrance, we honor the lives tragically taken by violence and extend strength to families and survivors whose resilience inspires us,” Councilman Green said, according to the City of New Orleans press release from his office. Participants gathered at the NOPD 5th District Station, proceeding to Bunny Friend Park between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Looking ahead, Councilman Green invites the community to Break the Cycle Revival, which is slated for October 2. This subsequent event shifts focus onto another pervasive issue affecting many: domestic violence.
