City Council pushes ban on reality shows working with first responders

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans City Council’s Governmental Affairs Committee voted Wednesday to move forward with a proposal that would ban the city from allowing reality shows to film local first responders.

The ordinance, which now heads to the full council for a vote, would block the city from making deals with production companies to film police, EMS, or firefighters.

The move came after the council heard from the family of Jacob Carter, a tourist from Washington who was fatally shot on Bourbon Street in 2024.
