NEW ORLEANS — Congress failed to reach an agreement today, extending the financial uncertainty for thousands of federal workers as the government shutdown drags into another week.
While military members and the FBI are reportedly still receiving paychecks, many other federal employees are not, and the financial pinch is being acutely felt by neighbors across Southeast Louisiana.
The nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service reports that at least 20,000 Louisianans make up the federal workforce. Since this number excludes the military, contractors, and USPS employees, the true number affected by the shutdown is likely much higher…
