New Orleans East junkyard fire smoke plumes visible across city

NEW ORLEANS — A huge plume of black smoke was visible across the city after a large fire broke out at a junkyard in New Orleans East on Friday.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a blaze in the 10000 block of Old Gentilly Road, affecting an area almost as wide as a city block.
