Proposed sanitation fee hike would not include biweekly trash collection in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans residents and businesses may have to prepare for some big changes to sanitation services or face an increase in their sanitation fees. Those are the tough choices city officials are debating as they grapple with a deep budget deficit.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in 2021, New Orleans had to reduce garbage collection to once a week. It’s been that way ever since.

“It’s very frustrating because we see people having more trash. Sometimes I have more trash than what is being picked up. So, I have to keep that in my can until it’s picked up on that Monday morning,” Elizabeth Scott said…
