It’s the end of an era for Winn-Dixie shoppers in Louisiana as Florida-based Southeastern Grocers tightens its focus on its home state, the company said in a news release.
Why it matters: It’s not yet clear what will happen to the brand’s 10 stores in the New Orleans metro.
The big picture: The news comes as Southeastern Grocers plans a brand transition to The Winn-Dixie Co. early next year, the news release said.
- Part of those plans include agreements or goals to sell 32 of its Winn-Dixie stores across the South, including its Louisiana markets.
- “Store closings are expected to be completed by year-end, with all banner transitions anticipated by early 2026,” the release said.
Zoom in: The sales include all of its Louisiana markets, according to a statement from the company, which also posted a tracker online with details on which operators will take over its stores.
- Two Baton Rouge stores will become Super 1 Foods stores.
- Plans for many of the remaining Louisiana stores were listed as pending as of Wednesday.
