Hit-and-run driver pleads guilty in French Quarter bartender’s death

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The hit-and-run driver accused of killing French Quarter bartender Michael Milam in July entered a guilty plea Tuesday (Oct. 28).

Thomas Riggio, 19, pleaded guilty as charged to hit-and-run driving causing death in Judge Kimya Holmes’ courtroom.

Prosecutors say everything leading up to Milam’s violent death was caught on camera. They said Riggio made no attempt to stop or slow down after he hit the bartender on his bicycle early July 12 on St. Claude Avenue.

Evidence of impairment

Toxicology samples taken more than 12 hours after the crash show Riggio had a blood alcohol content of 0.07 and cocaine in his system at the time.
