NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Mayor LaToya Cantrell is asking a judge to allow her to have contact with former New Orleans police officer Jeffrey Vappie, her co-defendant and alleged romantic partner in a criminal case accusing the two of scheming to defraud the city and obstruct justice.
Prosecutors, however, are expected to argue Friday that the two should have their contact further restricted to prevent potential collusion between co-defendants.
“The charges that she’s been indicted for indicate the mayor is not a public servant but has used her office for her own personal gains and enrichment,” said Rafael Goyeneche, president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission…
