Dozens Arrested In Charlotte As DHS Launches Immigration Blitz; New Orleans Eyed Next

Dozens of people were arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday during the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) latest targeted immigration enforcement operation.

DHS officials described the operation as a targeted “surge” intended to apprehend “criminal illegal aliens who flocked to the Tar Heel State because they knew sanctuary politicians would protect them.” The agency asserted that the enforcement action was necessary to combat illegal immigration in the state.

The operation has sparked debate, as Charlotte does not hold the designation of a “sanctuary city.” The city is, however, recognized as a “Certified Welcoming City,” a designation that indicates a commitment to immigrant inclusion and building supportive policies for illegal immigrants.
