NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Thousands returned to the Nine Times Second Line parade on Sunday (Nov. 23), one year after gunfire killed two people at the same event.
Brass bands echoed along St. Claude Avenue as the community gathered for the decades-long tradition in the Ninth Ward. The people who attended had one message this year: unity over violence.
Two shootings shattered last year’s parade 45 minutes apart. Malachi Jackson, 19, and Rasean Carter, 21, were killed, and 11 others were wounded.
This year, the community’s answer was clear: show up anyway…
