JP Coroner says man killed by his brother Thanksgiving night was St. John deputy

WAGGAMAN, La. (WGNO) — The Jefferson Parish Coroner identifies a man who was shot and killed Thanksgiving night in Waggaman as Shaquille Guerin, a deputy with the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case and says the suspect is Shaquille Guerin’s brother, 32-year-old Darius Guerin.

According to the JPSO, the shooting happened around 5:30 Thanksgiving night in the 30 block of Marigold Lane. At the scene, deputies say they found Shaquille Guerin, who was off-duty at the time, lying in the street in front of a home. JPSO deputies say he had been shot at least once and died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office says the brother’s car was spotted around 7:00 p.m. near the intersection of Ames and Lapalco Boulevards and a car chase began. Deputies say that chase ended in the 100 block of Jean Lafitte Blvd. in Lafitte and that’s where the suspect tried to make a run for it on foot.
