The Department of Homeland Security offered an update Thursday on its operations in the New Orleans area, releasing a select list of people it said were detained during the immigration sweeps dubbed Operation Catahoula Crunch.
In the news release issued Thursday, DHS said the U.S. Border Patrol’s operations in New Orleans “have resulted in dozens of arrests” and highlighted what it said were several people in the U.S. illegally that had previous arrests or convictions.
Local immigration attorneys, meanwhile, have said various U.S. citizens and people with work permits were also detained. In recent days, Border Patrol agents have appeared to target people looking for work in the parking lots of home improvement stores in the New Orleans area and on jobsites.
