Federal agents took 2 roofers at a Metairie restaurant, then let them go. They went back to work.

It took federal agents less than a minute to take two men from their pickup truck, handcuff them and drive them away in a pair of unmarked SUVs, witnesses said, describing a federal Border Patrol action in the parking lot of a west Metairie restaurant this week.

The men were roofers arriving to finish patching a leak in the ceiling at St. Mary’s restaurant Thursday afternoon, manager Daniel Victory said in an interview after the incident.

Though they had legal permanent resident status, according to Victory, that did not prevent the roofers from becoming targets of the south Louisiana-based U.S. Border Patrol operation federal officials have dubbed “Catahoula Crunch.”…
