New Orleans citizens trained to document Border Patrol actions

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Since Border Patrol arrived in Louisiana, the Ojos Community Watch Network has hosted daily workshops to teach citizens the do’s and don’ts when recording agents during Catahoula Crunch.

“We have everyday people. We have a reverend out filming ICE as we speak. You know, we have soccer moms. We have, you know, chefs and construction workers and people that know that New Orleans is standing thanks to our immigrant neighbors,” Ojos Community Watch Network volunteer Rachel Taber said.

During these meetings, volunteers teach attendees how to legally record on their cell phones and properly de-escalate any situation that comes up.

“These Border Patrol agents get very aggressive, without reason sometimes; and so how to kind of use our peaceful energy, you know, take that down a notch and just keep a calm situation for everyone while still ensuring that people’s rights aren’t being violated,” Taber said…
