Families ‘fearful’ of Border Patrol presence at annual toy distribution, Doll and Toy Fund board members say

The Times-Picayune Doll and Toy Fund’s annual toy distribution is set to take place on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at Xavier University’s convocation center, but members of the fund’s board told Verite News that they are worried some families won’t show up to get Christmas presents for fear of being exposed to federal immigration agents.

This weekend’s event, marking 130 years of the nonprofit’s effort to contribute to New Orleans families in need during the Christmas season, is a popular place for parents to get presents for their children ahead of the holiday. In previous decades, the population served by the toy distribution was predominantly Black, according to board members.
