Accused ‘Byrd Gang’ leader pleads guilty in middle of federal trial

After three days on trial in federal court in New Orleans, accused of fueling a bloody Central City street gang as its top drug supplier, Tim Jackson reconsidered his options.

Jackson, 36, agreed to plead guilty Thursday morning in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence, rather than risk life in prison with the jury, said his attorney, Aris Cox. U.S. District Judge Jane Triche-Milazzo must still formally approve the agreement.
