Mayor Cantrell declines request to pause Katrina road projects amid budget concerns

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell will not pause certain Katrina road projects, despite a request from Mayor-elect Helena Moreno to temporarily halt the work, which could further worsen the city’s budget crisis.

Moreno had asked the Cantrell administration to pause construction from Jan. 1 through Jan. 12 in an effort to protect the general fund before she takes office. Emails obtained by WWLTV show that work during that period would cost $7.5 million from the general fund.
