Orleans Parish reserve deputy and local musician Michael Ward dies after 20 years of service

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Orleans Parish Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Reno Ward has died after more than 20 years of service with the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Susan Hutson announced.

Ward served in the Special Operations and Motorcycle divisions during his tenure with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. He worked closely with incarcerated residents through the HISET program, helping adults pursue their high school education.

“Reserve Deputy Ward proudly served the Sheriff’s Office in a number of capacity including the Special Operations and Motorcycle divisions,” Hutson said in a statement. “He was known not only for his commitment to duty, but for the compassion, humility, and humanity he brought to every role he served.”

Musical career alongside law enforcement

Ward was also a violinist whose performances took him across New Orleans and around the world. Hutson said Ward shared his musical gift with the same passion and dedication he brought to public service…
