After WDSU questions, New Orleans activates new alerts to detect cars on Bourbon Street during pedestrian hours

Nearly a year after the deadly terrorist attack on Bourbon Street, New Orleans police are now activating new technology designed to alert officers when a vehicle enters Bourbon Street during pedestrian only hours a move that comes after WDSU began asking why the system was not already in use.

For months, cars have continued to enter the heavily crowded corridor despite barricades and traffic restrictions. In some cases, drivers have moved barricades to enter the street. In others, vehicles parked on Bourbon Street before closures have attempted to leave while crowds were still present.
