Plaquemines Parish sues over Belle Chasse Bridge tolling system

Plaquemines Parish has filed a new lawsuit asking a judge to block the state and its contractor from reinstating “negligent and abusive” tolls on the Belle Chasse Bridge.

The parish government filed suit against the state Department of Transportation and Development, bridge operator Plenary Belle Chasse and its tolling subcontractor, Kapsch TrafficCom, in the 25th Judicial District Court last week, seeking an injunction on bridge tolls and the return of all tolls and fees collected from May to October of this year.

According to the parish, the lawsuit was filed because the state and Plenary “were unable to reach an agreement” on how to fix the toll system…
