LSU interim coach Frank Wilson shares what led to him taking a job at Ole Miss

HOUSTON — Next week, Frank Wilson will meet up with the Ole Miss staff when they arrive in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. But before he becomes the Rebels’ new running backs coach and associate head coach, he has one more game at LSU.

Wilson said Friday he had conversations with new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin about staying on staff in some capacity before he accepted the Ole Miss job. LSU replaced him with Kevin Smith, who was the running backs coach at Ole Miss and a longtime Kiffin assistant.

“We talked about ways that it could work out,” Wilson said before the Texas Bowl at 8:15 p.m. CT Saturday. “Coach Kiffin was absolutely awesome the entire time and wanted to try to find a way to work it out. We didn’t come to that resolution. 
And so there were other opportunities out there.”…
