‘A treasure to our city.’ Michael Carbine, noted restorer of New Orleans homes, dies at 74.

Michael Carbine, whose attention to the tiniest details in the houses he restored won him a long list of grateful well-heeled clients, died Sunday at Ochsner Medical Center of complications of surgery, his wife, Elizabeth “Basi” Carbine said. He was 74.

“Work was his first love,” she said. “He just loved doing his houses. He loved the architecture here [in New Orleans], and he loved fixing up the houses. … He was totally devoted to his clients and the project at hand. He threw himself into his work.”

He was so devoted to his clients that he even called one during his last hospital stay, Olivia Manning said…
