NEW ORLEANS — A University of Georgia student who suffered life-threatening injuries during a deadly New Year’s Day terrorist attack on Bourbon Street is part of a lawsuit alleging city officials failed to take steps that could have prevented the violence.
Elle Eisele, a UGA sophomore at the time, was among dozens of people struck when a man drove a pickup truck into crowds in New Orleans’ French Quarter early Jan. 1, 2025. Authorities said 14 people were killed in the attack, and the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, later died in a shootout with police.
According to court records, Eisele was on Bourbon Street shortly after 3 a.m., celebrating the new year and meeting friends, when she was hit by the speeding truck.
