New Orleans Police Probe City’s First Homicide of 2026 Following Downman Road Shooting

The New Orleans Police Department is currently investigating the city’s first homicide of 2026, which occurred on Friday afternoon. At around 4:25 p.m., officers were dispatched following reports of a shooting in the 3900 block of Downman Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a 24-year-old man who had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was unresponsive. Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later found to have been initially transported by private vehicle to the 5900 block of Boeing Street, according to FOX 8 Live.

Detectives are now working to meticulously gather evidence and identify the person or persons responsible, as well as to determine a definitive motive for the crime. The identity of the victim and the official cause of death will be released after an autopsy is performed and next of kin have been notified, as stated by officials from the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.
